Defense lawyers for accused murder suspect Simon McCartney in their closing submissions told the assessors that most of the evidence presented by prosecution should not be considered, as most of them are not credible.
Sevuloni Valenitabua asked the assessors in the Supreme Court before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar to take into account that McCartney had taken the witness stand because he wanted to set the record straight on the evidence given by the prosecution, which he said was manufactured.
Valenitabua also told the court that the date of Ashika McCartney's death is also questionable as the police had said that she was murdered on the 22nd of October, 2007, which was contradicted by the post mortem results which say that Ahika could have died on the 24th to the 29th of October.
The prosecution however pleaded with the assessors in their closing submission, to consider the fact that a person's life was lost and should focus on the evidence they presented, which is enough to prove that Simon McCartney had murdered his wife.
Judge Goundar is expected to give his sum up on Monday.
