The 31 year old suspect charged with the alleged murder of a 20 year old man at the Suva market yesterday was today sent to Saint Giles for a psychiatric assessment.
The accused, James Arthur Kamoaemoa is alleged to have stabbed the deceased who had tried to stop a fight between the accused and another suspect.
Kamoaemoa is alleged to have stabbed the deceased in the chest amd though he was rushed to the CWM hospital, doctors pronounced him dead.
Magistrate Kwaindra Nayankarra made this call after DPP lawyer, Taina Leweni informed the Court that they have reason to believe that the accused is mentally impaired and needs to be medically examined.
Leweni added that Kamoaemoa is alleged to have committed a very serious offence that carried the penalty of life imprisonment.
The matter has been transferred to the high Court for the 11th of June.
