The Namosi Joint Venture is continuing it's studies and exploration to determine if a copper mine with gold by-products can be developed in Waisoi.
Namosi Joint Venture Country Manager Greg Morris said the Environmental Impact Assessment is currently underway to ensure all issues are fully understood and taken into account before anything is built.
Morris added that the assessment is expected to be completed at the end of this year and early next year.
Meanwhile Mineral Resources Department director Malakai Finau said they are continuing to monitor the Environmental Impact Assessment.
According to the Environmental Impact Assessment status, the government will not approve the project if it has a major effect to the soil, atmosphere, noise level, ground water, waterways and ecology conditions.
