Three million liters of water has been carted to various homes in the Western Division and Maritime areas in the last two months.

The dry weather spell has affected a number of areas in the Western division and according to Acting Commissioner Western, the maritime islands including Yasawa, Malolo and Vatulele are the most affected.

Luke Moroivalu said they are carting water to the affected areas on a daily basis and a barge left for the islands yesterday.

Moroivalu saidthey are also carting water to schools to ensure that classes are not disrupted.

He said the prolonged dry spell is now taking its toll on the farmers, their root crops and livestock.

Moroivalu said he has requested the Ministry of Agriculture to carry out an assessment on the crops and livestock.

Meanwhile, according to the Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Ministry, as a result of the dry weather spell, more than 145,000 liters of fresh water has been carted to 17 villagers in Central division in the last two months.

The Ministry also confirmed that out of 36 villages who had made request for water, some villagers are still awaiting assessment.

A number of areas in the Northern division are also affected.

People have started to face water disruptions as a result of the dry weather spell.

The Water Authority of Fiji confirmed the continuous dry weather has been diminishing reservoir levels.

However, the Authority said that water trucks will be carting water to affected areas as a temporary measure to address the situation.
