Education is of paramount concern to the national interest as well as to each individual in Fiji.
Speaking at the 75th Convention of the Dakshina India Andhra Sangam of Fiji in Tavua, Minister for Education Dr. Mahendra Reddy said Fiji needs a new standard of excellence in education, matched by the fullest possible access to educational opportunities.
This will enable each citizen to develop his or her talents to the maximum possible extent.
He said the government made a decision last year to set up ten technical colleges.
He said Fiji has paid heavily for the shortage of graduates and Fiji kept hiring consultants and kept paying for hefty salaries for off-shore graduates.
Dr. Reddy said today Fiji can churn out its own graduates who can think and create for the nation and economy and enable the country to be independent.
