The Waratahs’ new forwards coach Simon Cronn wants to see forward pack aggression.
Captain Michael Hooper is often the leader when it comes to that area but Cronn said they could not simply rely on one or two personalities for that anymore.
Cronn said the coaches were yet to settle on their first‑choice locking combination for round one and hope they will be ready on Saturday against the Stormers.
The Waratahs will host the Stormers at 8.45pm Saturday.
The Highlanders play the Blues at 6.35pm Friday, the Rebels then take on the Reds at 8.45pm.
At 4.15pm Saturday, the Sunwolves take on the Brumbies, then at 6.35pm the defending champions, the Crusaders play the Chiefs.
On Sunday, the Lions play the Jaguares at 1.05am while the Bulls take on the Hurricanes.
Meanwhile in the matches played over the weekend, the Stormers beat the Jaguares 28-20 and the Lions beat the Sharks 26-19.
