Police and RFMF officers have continued to proceed with the recovery operations to transport the 2 bodies from the plane crash site in Delaikoro to Labasa hospital since 6am this morning.

Police say the joint search team has managed to uplift the bodies of the two victims from the crash site as of 8pm last night.

Divisional Police Commander North, SSP Verani Nakauyaca had confirmed that attempts to bring the victims bodies back down to an area that can be accessed by road to enable the transportation to the Labasa Hospital, where the post-mortem will be conducted had been called off due to nightfall, as it would pose an immediate safety concern for the operation team.

He says that despite challenges posed by the rugged terrain and the location of the wreckage the efforts by Police, RFMF, NFA and villagers have managed to carefully retrieve the bodies of the two victims from the wreckage.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says the families of the victims will be flying to Labasa today to identify their loved ones before the post-mortem is conducted.

Tudravu says that officers will continue to guard the scene until the arrival of the New Zealand appointed investigator.
