In nine out of ten cases, men and boys are the perpetrators of sexual offences, men need to take more responsibility and be part of the solution to raise awareness and promote safer spaces for women and girls.
Fiji Women’s Rights Movement Executive Director Nalini Singh highlighted this yesterday at a creative art performance event organised by FWRM to commemorate International Women’s Day.
Singh says the continued high prevalence of sexual violence against women and children has been a deep frustration for the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement.
She says there is also a need to realise the deeply entrenched patriarchy in our cultures and the barriers women and girls face that inhibit their full and equal participation in society.
The Grow Inspire Relate Lead Succeed or GIRLS program was organised to host the creative performances of women and young girls through songs, music, poetry, and dance after they undertook six weeks of Creative Writing workshops at the University of the South Pacific.
The workshop brought together women who shared issues important to them in nine out of ten cases, men and boys are the perpetrators of sexual offences, men need to take more responsibility and be part of the solution to raise awareness and promote safer spaces for women and girls.
