Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has shared his personal experiences as he toured the areas in Fiji last month that were struck by back to back cyclones within the space of 8 days.
Speaking at the wrap‑up meeting of the Presidencies Talanoa Dialogue in Bonn, Germany Bainimarama says sadly he has become used to surveying the devastation of these extreme weather events and trying to find the right words to comfort his people who have lost loved ones, their homes, possessions or businesses after the devastation left behind by cyclones Josie and Keni.
He says 2 years ago Fiji was hit by Tropical Cyclone Winston , a category 5 storm that was the biggest ever to make landfall in the Southern hemisphere which claimed the lives of 44 people.
Ha says cyclones have become quite common now.
He says the Fiji Care initiative is a co‑ordinated response of the government to provide funds and other support for those in need in the affected areas and is already making a difference.
