The Ministry of Trade and Tourism has received $10,000 sponsorship from Textile Clothing and Footwear for hosting the 30th United Nations World Tourism Organisation Joint Commission Meeting.

Permanent Secretary for Trade and Tourism Shaheen Ali highlighted that this is the first time a Pacific Island Country will host a United Nations World Tourism Organization Meeting.

Ali says East Asia and the Pacific and South Asia are important regional markets for Fiji.

He adds that the Ministry has a long‑standing partnership with the Textile Clothing and Footwear sector, through the Council.

Ali states that the sector contributes immensely to the Fijian economy, therefore, it is important to increase domestic linkage between the tourism and manufacturing sectors.

Textile Clothing and Footwear Council President, Mike Towler stated that they will continue to support such initiatives.

He says the Textile Clothing and Footwear Council is ready to step up and assist, as they see this as a milestone event that could potentially be used to showcase themselves to the countries being represented.

The meeting will be held from the 18th to the 20th of June this year, at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa in Nadi.
