Can we afford to allow cases involving parking tickets to proceed through the courts on technicalities all the way to the Supreme Court?

This was a question posed by the Chief Justice Anthony Gates at the ground breaking ceremony of the new court house at the Nasinu Magistrates court.

He says all governments, from time to time will have to re-examine how much process is to be given to minor matters or cases, bearing in mind the time and cost of such process.

Chief Justice Gates says the nation have many needs and governments have to decide what rights in minor matters must be recognized and when a more robust system is required which acknowledges the necessity of working within the financial means.
