Welsh media are speculating that Blues coach Tana Umaga and Crusaders assistant Ronan O’Gara could be potential contenders to coach Scarlets once New Zealander Wayne Pivac moves onto the Wales job.

Pivac will coach Scarlets for the 2018‑19 season before replacing Warren Gatland at the Welsh coaching position next July.

Scarlets General Manager Jon Daniels told Wales Online the 2016‑17 Pro12 champions would "trawl far and wide" for a new coach.

Wales Online listed three coaches with New Zealand connections as possible alternatives, including ex‑All Blacks captain Umaga, who is contracted to the Blues until the end of the 2019 Super Rugby season.

Other names on the Wales Online list were ex‑England coach Stuart Lancaster ‑ now an assistant‑coach at Pro14 and European Cup champions Leinster ‑ former Scarlets coaches Phil Davies and Simon Easterby and ex‑Wales halfback Dwayne Peel.
