France has won the 2018 FIFA World Cup after they beat Croatia 4-2 in the final earlier this morning.

France had a bit of fortune with their first goal as Croatia’s striker Mario Mandzukic headed a Antoine Griezmann free-kick into his own net.

Ivan Perisic equalized for Croatia with a brilliant left foot shot.

Perisic was then adjudged to have handled the ball inside their penalty box and Griezmann scored the resulting penalty with ease as France led 2-1 at half-time.

Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe scored two more goals for France in the second half.

Mario Mandzukic then pulled one goal back for Croatia after France captain and goal-keeper, Hugo Lloris failed to make a clearance.

France held on to win their second World cup title after 1998.

This was also a special moment for France manager, Didier Deschamps, as he captained France in 1998 when they beat Brazil 3-0.

He is now the third person to win the tournament as a player and a coach.

France receives $USD38 million as prize money while Croatia got $USD28 million.

Meanwhile, Croatia captain Luka Modric won Player of the Tournament, Kylian Mbappe got FIFA Young Player Award, England striker, Harry Kane won the Golden Boot award with 6 goals.

The next FIFA World Cup in 2022 will be played in Qatar.
