Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has made it clear that irrespective of which Fijian government took loans, it is a loan taken by the government.

He has also highlighted that no Fijian Government has ever defaulted in paying any loans.

This was stressed by Sayed-Khaiyum during the National Budget Roadshow at Vunimono High School after a resident of Bau Road in Nausori asked him if the next generation will be paying the national debt through taxes.

Sayed-Khaiyum says that indeed the debt will have to be paid through taxes.

Sayed-Khaiyum adds that the most important part about borrowing is to ask what the money is being borrowed for and that the borrowing is done for the right purpose.
