The Ministry of Agriculture in its efforts to empower women in Agriculture held a training for floriculturists in Taveuni.

Agriculture Officer Anare Leweniqila reminded participants the importance of women engagement in such enterprises.

He stressed that women and floriculture are synonymous and it is time that women in Taveuni involve themselves to further develop the potential available in floriculture as a business.

The training conducted by the Farm Management Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture taught ladies on various aspects such as landscaping, flower arrangements, varieties and names, management and multiplications.

Florist, Elena Marama said the training has broadened her knowledge on floriculture.

Marama says that although she has been in this business for a while now, she was able to learn new things that she didn't know of and hopes to exchange ideas with other women in regards to flowers or nursery maintenance and other new things that she has  learnt.
