The Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guiterres has congratulated Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on his re-election as Prime Minister.
In a letter to Bainimarama, Guiterres said he trusts that Bainimarama will seize this new opportunity together with Parliament, Civil Society and the private sector to fulfil the vision of a modern and inclusive Fiji.
He says the United Nations remains firmly committed to working in close partnership with the Fijian government and the people of Fiji.
Guiterres says Fiji’s support to United Nations peacekeeping is highly appreciated.
The UN Secretary General adds that Bainimarama’s international leadership on the issues of climate change and the oceans will continue to be invaluable as we approach the Conference of the Parties 24 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as well as the Climate Change Summit next year.
