Minister for Education Rosy Akbar confirms that they are working to have school patrols in the mornings and afternoons outside all the schools.

Akbar highlighted this to Fijivillage when we questioned her on the unavailability of school patrols outside Marist Brothers Primary School where a Year 1 student was hit by a bus resulting in his death.

The Education Minister says they will be having discussions with school heads, parents, Police and LTA.

Fijivillage has also witnessed children as young as Year 1 students trying to cross busy streets like Rewa Street however there are no school patrols. There is only one Police Patrol outside Jai Narayan College.

The Minister has stressed that they want all schools to now have school patrols.

The 6‑year‑old student of Marist Brothers Primary School passed away after he was hit by a bus outside his school at Suva Street two weeks ago.
