The Ministry of Waterways & Environment has received 3 excavators that have been donated by the Japanese Government.

This is expected to help with the drainage clearance and maintenance works in low lying areas.

While handing over the new equipment, acting Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, Sakeasi Waikere says this assistance aims to improve infrastructure in the rural communities which is aligned to the macro objective of expanding the rural economy outlined in the Fiji’s National Development Plan.

Waikere says that this is also part of the Government of Japan’s ongoing development partnership with the Fijian Government.

Waikere says that these 3 excavators will be used for dump site preparation including drainage works and the clearing of irrigation canals.

He adds that the Fijian Government acknowledges the important role that the Ministry of Waterways and Environment plays in ensuring that our drainage infrastructure is well maintained.

The Japanese Government donated 3 excavators, 9 tractors and 20 chainsaw which will be distributed to Government agencies who are involved in rural development.
