A man will be produced in the Nausori Magistrates Court today for allegedly causing the death of a 23-year-old man last Sunday.

The driver is alleged to have hit the man along Lodoni Road in Tailevu at around 4am on Sunday and failed to stop or report the matter to Police.

A call was received at the Korovou Police Station after the victim from Burerua Village was found lying motionless on the side of the road a few hours later.

Police say information provided by a member of the public who noticed the damage on the accused’s vehicle led to his arrest.

The accused has been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death, one count of failure to comply with requirements after an accident and one count of driving a motor vehicle without a valid license.

The road death toll currently stands at 13 compared to 9 for the same period last year.
