A 56 year old man has been sentenced to 7 years and 7 months imprisonment for raping his 40 year old niece.
The man was charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The incidents happened in Nabua in October last year.
While sentencing the man, Judge, Justice Thushara Rajasinghe says it was a crime of opportunity.
Justice Rajasinghe says the man broke the trust of the victim.
He says the man pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and it shows his remorse.
A non‑parole period of 5 years 7 months has been set.
