Fiji has received a timely boost in their preparations to host the 52nd Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors after receiving a grant of $4.17 million from the Australian government.

While signing the direct fund agreement Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economy Makereta Konrote says that the ADB Annual Meeting to be held next month in Nadi is going be a unique experience for delegates.

Konrote adds that the meeting will not only highlight opportunities for greater cooperation in the Pacific region but also draw attention to important development challenges facing the region and other Asian countries.

Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes says that the support would help the Government of Fiji meet the demands of hosting such a large and prestigious international meeting.

Feakes says that Australia is pleased to assist Fiji to host a successful ADB Annual Meeting adding that the meeting, which is being held in the Pacific for the first time, again demonstrates Fiji's leadership in the international and regional arena.

Fiji will be the first Pacific island country to host the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the ADB.

The 52nd Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors will be held in Nadi from the 1st to the 5th of next month.
