US President Donald Trump has congratulated Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on his victory at the polls, calling the result a "great win!".
Morrison claimed victory in a stunning political "miracle" that defied the polls and devastated the opposition Labor Party, forcing its leader Bill Shorten to step down.

Trump later spoke by phone with Morrison to congratulate him on his conservative coalition's surprise election victory.
