An assessment will be made by the Fiji Roads Authority on potential road safety issues at the pedestrian crossing in front of Hoodless House along Brown Street in Suva.
Fijivillage raised with the Fiji Roads Authority that the pedestrian crossing is directly in line with concrete stairs that leads to Kivi House hostel for FNU medical students.
We raised that since the concrete stairs is in an obscure place, it means drivers will not be able to see students who walk down the stairs and then use the pedestrian crossing.
This is a huge safety risk as it can cause a road accident leading to death or injury.
Another concern is that sometimes there is illegal parking near the pedestrian crossing and vehicles block pedestrians who stand by waiting to cross.
Drivers are not able to see the pedestrians waiting to cross because of the illegal parking there.
Fiji Roads Authority CEO, Jonathan Moore says the decision will be made through the Suva Arterial Road Upgrading Project 2 (SARUP 2) consultations where a road safety audit will be conducted.
He says what they will look at through the road safety audit is whether the crossing is in the right location.
Moore stresses that it is a no parking zone on both ends of the pedestrian crossing.
