David Warner led defending champions Australia to a seven‑wicket win against Afghanistan at the start of their Cricket World Cup defence this morning.

Australia, who came into this tournament with overseas series victories against India and Pakistan, have now won nine one‑day internationals in a row.

The five‑time World Cup winners will take on West Indies on Thursday at 9.30pm while Afghanistan take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday at 9.30pm.

New Zealand also opened their World Cup campaign with a dominant 10‑wicket win against Sri Lanka.

New Zealand will play Bangladesh this Thursday at 12.30am while Sri Lanka will take on Afghanistan this Tuesday at 9.30pm.

South Africa will play against Bangladesh at 9.30 tonight.

West Indies now lead the points table, New Zealand is second while England is third.

Bangladesh and India are the only two teams that haven’t played so far in this tournament.
