Close to a 1,000 submissions have been received by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission in regards to the proposed increase in tariff by the Energy Fiji Limited.

Commission CEO, Joel Abraham says submissions have been mixed, and while some people oppose any increase, other members of the public have given submissions that they could accept increases provided it was not as high as 17 percent.

Abraham says they are happy with the level of response from members of the public.

He has encouraged all Fijians to come and participate in the nationwide consultations and give their views adding the views of every Fijian matters.

Energy Fiji Limited is proposing an increase in electricity tariff rates to 17.5% to provide reliable electricity supply given its ageing infrastructure and assets.

The last time the tariff rates was increased was in 2011.
