The Silver Ferns have completed the ultimate redemption story, beating World Number One Australia 52‑51 to win the Netball World Cup in Liverpool.

It's New Zealand's first World Cup title in 16 years and fifth overall; the last time they tasted glory was in Jamaica in 2003.

It was a remarkable result given how Australia have dominated New Zealand in recent times, winning eight of nine clashes since the start of 2018.

The Silver Ferns hit rock bottom at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games last year, when they finished the tournament in fourth place.

Earlier, England beat South Africa 58‑42 to win bronze.
