Nineteen children have lost their lives to cancer so far this year.

Speaking at the WOWS Kids Fiji Fundraising Ball at the Grand Pacific Hotel last night, Mary Bainimarama says WOWS Kids Fiji holds a very special place in her heart, and the hearts of her husband and family.

She says there's a great need to fuel this cancer fight with renewed focus and energy.

Bainimarama who was accompanied by the Prime Minister and her children said it’s heartbreaking to consider that 19 families have been robbed of the chance to see their beautiful children grow up.

She says the emotional toll is already enough, so WOWS is dedicated to ensuring, through a holistic care package, that the cost of treatment and care is kept as low as possible.

Bainimarama also encouraged the guests to continue supporting the organisation for the benefit of those children suffering from cancer.

The 500 guests also observed 19 seconds of silence to remember those children who have passed on as a result of cancer.
