Assistant Commissioner of Police Itendra Nair has told Police officers when people call Police Station’s for assistance, they should not receive excuses such as there being no transport.
He made these comments at the launch of CCTV cameras at the Ba Market .
Nair says they have to go beyond the call of duty and earn people’s trust and they won’t be able to do that by giving petty excuses.
Nair added that research has shown that for members of the community to come forward and form this kind of partnership they need to first trust and have confidence in Police.
Varoka Crime Prevention Committee President Sanil Prakash says police cannot be everywhere at once so they have installed these cameras to help them.
He says an app for the cameras can be loaded onto the phone of Ba Police officers where they will also be able to monitor the market apart from the Ba market master.
Prakash says it cost around $2,800 to purchase and install the cameras and it was funded by the community.
