Fiji Airways Men's National Sevens coach, Gareth Baber says they will use this Oceania 7s tournament to build their team for the first leg of the 2019/2020 HSBC Seven Series which starts in December with the Dubai 7s tournament.
Baber led a young team to the Oktoberfest 7s tournament in Germany where they reached the final but fell short to South Africa 12-10.
Baber says with the Olympic Qualifiers being held with this tournament, all teams competing will be aiming for that spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
He says since they have already qualified, this tournament will be a great platform for young players to step up and show what they can do on the field.
Baber is expected to name his team for the Oceania 7s tournament next week.
Sixteen countries will be participating in this year's tournament with 15 men's teams, 12 women's teams and 4 men's deaf teams.
The Oceania 7s will be held from the 7th to the 11th of next month the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
