American boxer Patrick Day has died four days after suffering a brain injury during a fight in Chicago against Charles Conwell.
The 27-year-old was put into an induced coma and taken to Northwest Memorial Hospital following a round 10 knock out, with his situation at the time being described as extremely critical.
Day had previously been knocked down twice in the fight before hitting the canvas again midway through the 10th round.
Boxing promoter Lou DiBella confirmed yesterday that Day had died surrounded by his family, close friends and members of his boxing team.
Day's super welterweight bout against Conwell was on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk's heavyweight win over Chazz Witherspoon.
