A 5.3 magnitude earthquake was felt in parts of Fiji at around 8.30 am today.

The Mineral Resources Department says the earthquake occurred 26 km North North West of Vunisea, Kadavu.

Narikoso Villager Kelepi Saukitoga says they were still having their breakfast when the roof of their homes began shaking.

Saukitoga says the villagers quickly responded by evacuating the women and children.

He says Narikoso is a village in Kadavu that is currently facing coastal erosion and that the villagers are always alert incase of any warning of a natural disaster.

He says for the village of Narikoso they are fortunate that there were no injuries and no houses were damaged.
