A 55-year-old woman has lost her life in a fire that destroyed her home in Sarava, Ba yesterday afternoon.

The National Fire Authority believes that the 55-year-old bed-ridden woman was alone in her three-bedroom corrugated iron and wooden house while her husband and her son were away when the fire started.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other nearby houses.

Meanwhile, the National Fire Authority also attended to a fire at the Tavua Police Barracks.

The first unit in the housing barrack was engulfed in flames and firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, stopping its spread to the adjacent three units of the barrack.

Investigations continue.
