Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says politics of fear is a real thing which made her a paranoid parent, fearing for the safety of her children.
While speaking in parliament, Vuniwaqa says the President in his speech also spoke about elements in the society who seek to sow politics of fear rather than preach the proven power of unity.
She says she is talking about the politics of fear that was sown against some of them who were named in a curse adding it was not fear for themselves but for their children who were also included in the curse.
The Minister adds she knows Lenora Qereqeretabua has apologised albeit it was a conditional apology and she would like to share her personal experience.
She says this is so that members of the House can think seriously about statements that they so carelessly post on social media for the sake of political expediency or in Qereqeretabua’s words out of anger and disgust.
She says she does not only speak as a Member of Parliament or as Minister for Children but as a mother whose children have been cursed by a leader of this nation by virtue of her membership in parliament.
Vuniwaqa says children did not sign up to be used as political football.
She continues that Members of Parliament, whether they like it or not, attract a following of minds and influence behaviors.
The Minister says the destiny of our country is in their hands, not only through the development commitments of Government, but also through the words that they speak inside and outside the House on the issues that matter to the people.
National Federation Party MP, Lenora Qereqeretabua had earlier apologised in parliament after her facebook post in September where she had used the word curse against the government.
While apologising, Qereqeretabua had said what she should have done is warned them of the sins of the father and mother, visiting their children even to the 3rd and 4th generations as foretold in the bible.
