A man who cultivated 198 kilograms of Marijuana in Navosa has been sentenced to 17 years imprisonment by High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo.

Mesulame Kurinacoba cultivated 1,589 plants of marijuana between October 2016 to March 2017.

While sentencing the man, Justice Temo says the amount of illicit drugs found on him showed a deliberate contempt for the law, and he must not complain when a long custodial sentence is given to him.

Justice Temo told Kurinacoba that his sentence will act as a deterrence to others.

The judge also said that this was one of the few cases that had passed the 100 kilograms mark.

A non-parole period of 15 years has been set.
