A man has passed away after he was struck by a locomotive in Navo, Nadi which belonged to Fiji Sugar Corporation.

FSC says the man was allegedly sleeping on the track before the Navo Bridge.

The incident occurred at 11.30pm Friday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by an emergency medical personnel.

Police have confirmed that the man is originally from Nadroga and was working in a near-by cane farm. He has been identified by his 25-year-old nephew.

They say once the post mortem has been done then they will confirm the circumstances surrounding the death of the man.

FSC CEO, Graham Clark says they are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident and their thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family.

FSC says they will continue to cooperate with the authorities as the final incident report is prepared and they are also doing an internal investigation.
