Two boys aged 11 and 12 were charged with the rape and sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl from their village last month.

In another incident, an 11-year-old boy was charged with the rape and sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl.

While releasing the January statistics of serious sexual offences, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says an 83-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 6-year-old granddaughter.

The matter was discontinued after the accused was convicted and sentenced for two other similar offences against the same girl.

There was one incident where a 60-year-old man was charged with the indecent assault of his granddaughters aged 5 and 8.

In one incident, a 48-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 14-year-old daughter while in another incident a 69-year-old man was charged with the rape and attempted rape of his 25-year-old stepdaughter.

There were also two separate incidents where two men aged 44 and 32 were charged with the rape of their 28-year-old and 16-year-old nieces.

28 people were charged with 46 counts of separate incidents in January which include 31 cases of rape, 2 cases of attempted rape, 8 cases of sexual assault, 3 cases of indecent assault while there was one case each of defilement and abduction of a young person.
