Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says this week has marked the beginning of the end of this terrible pandemic for Fiji and for the first of many better days ahead.

While speaking during his right of reply to the President’s opening speech in parliament, Bainimarama says the first two flights on Wednesday represented nearly two years of careful preparation including the decisive effort to vaccinate everyone in Fiji.

He says since then five more flights have arrived from Melbourne, Sydney and LA.

Bainimarama thanked everyone involved in the efforts in reopening the borders, those that have been vaccinated and also urged those who are not vaccinated to get vaccinated now.

He says they laid careful plans to free Fiji from the grip of this crisis, they worked hard with their partners to secure the vaccines that we needed, they showed the leadership to deploy them quickly and they prepared the strategy to restart tourism and he shudders to think what would have happened to Fiji if the Opposition was in Government during this crisis.

Bainimarama says they have been monitoring the COVID-19 variants including Omicron.
