Millions are bracing for life-threatening storm surges, catastrophic winds and flooding as category 4 hurricane Ian gets ready to make landfall on the Florida coast.

The hurricane is on course for the Tampa Bay region - one of the most vulnerable places in the US for severe flooding.

Theme parks such as Busch Gardens in Tampa are closing, while Nasa has postponed the planned launch of a moon rocket at Kennedy Space Center.

The hurricane barrelled through Cuba on Tuesday and much of the island is now without power.
