Senegal forward Sadio Mane has been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup after surgery.

He has undergone surgery on a knee injury, which he sustained playing for Bayern Munich.

Earlier this week, Senegal's football federation stated Mane will miss their first games of the tournament.

A further MRI scan was completed late yesterday that showed surgical intervention was needed.

Munich have confirmed Mane underwent successful surgery to attach a tendon to the head of his right fibula.

The club says he will begin his rehab in Munich in the next few days.
