The New Zealand Government will be providing $10 million in general budget support and an additional $20 million for flexible climate action initiatives.

This has been confirmed by New Zealand’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta while speaking during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in Nadi today.

Mahuta says the allocation of $10 million is a demonstration of their commitment for Fiji to develop further priorities that Rabuka has articulated.

She says the $20 million for climate action initiative will enable Fiji to ensure that Fiji can strengthen their resiliency aspiration.

She says New Zealand has launched its climate finance strategy as a signal to the Pacific that they see themselves as a partner to address this particular challenge.

Rabuka says the grant will be used for areas that were more affected by the phenomena that Fiji did not budget for.
