The tsunami watch earlier issued for all low-lying coastal areas of Fiji has been downgraded to tsunami information only.

Please note it was not a tsunami warning.

The Seismology Section confirms a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit 433 kilometres East South East of Noumea, New Caledonia this afternoon.

The depth of the earthquake was 10km.
