Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad has confirmed that taxpayers fund will not be used to farewell the former Permanent Secretary for Health Dr. James Fong or anybody else.

This comes as International Women’s Association President Judy Compain raised concerns that taxpayers money was being used to farewell Dr. Fong in the Northern Division where the Health Minister allegedly sent a written directive for each unit to send staff and that all airfares and accommodation are to be paid for from the health budget.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Professor Prasad says taxpayer funds are not used for farewelling staff or supporting staff members and their families in times of crisis or death and it is always through contributions from staff.

He says whoever is suggesting otherwise is perhaps not aware of this policy and the Minister for Health has again assured him that this is not the case.
