France are through to the HSBC Hong Kong 7s final after a controversial 24-17 win over the Fiji Airways National Men’s 7s side in their semi final.

Fiji will now meet Australia at 9.38 tonight for the third place play-off.

Fiji struck first through Joseva Talacolo in the second minute before France replied through Gregoire Arfeuil and Andy Timo to lead 10-7 at half time.

Iowane Teba got one back for Fiji after the break to bring things snatch back the lead at 12-10.

France struck back through Simon Desert before Rauto Vakadranu leveled things at 17-17.

In the dying seconds of the game, the referee missed a forward pass by France leading up to the game winning try that was awarded by the TMO even though it looked like Mateo Garcia had lost control of the ball over the try line to seal it 24-17.

In the other semi final, Argentina blew Australia out of the water with a 31-7 score line.

The cup final between Argentina and France is at 10.46 tonight.
