The villagers of Rewasau in Naitasiri have taken the initiative to work together and fix their poor road condition, as the health and well-being of their children are a top priority.
In a video that went viral on social media, villagers were seen packing sand into sacks and placing them on the road to make it more accessible for drivers.
A villager said that most of the time, children have to disembark the carrier so it can cross muddy areas.
He adds that hundreds of students use that road every day.
He also highlighted that during rainy weather, students often arrive home soaked.
The villager stated that the government is not fulfilling its responsibility to improve road conditions in the interior, prompting the village to take action and make a difference in their community.
He says villagers are paying for four-wheel-drive vehicles to transport gravel and sand for road repairs.
