In a significant step towards creating a more secure cyber environment for Fijians, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed today between Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sharen Haskel and Fiji’s Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, aimed at enhancing Fiji’s cyber security and defense strategies through bilateral cooperation.
While speaking during a joint press conference, Rabuka says that the signing reaffirms Fiji’s support for Israel, particularly in addressing mutual concerns related to national security and cyber threats.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening Fiji’s resilience in vulnerable areas of cyber security.
Rabuka noted that, in addition to cyber security, discussions will continue around other potential areas of business cooperation that could benefit both nations.
Deputy Minister Haskel expressed her gratitude for Fiji’s steadfast support of Israel over the past two years, especially during some of Israel’s most challenging times.
She noted that the people of Israel are deeply moved by Fiji’s decision to open an embassy in Israel, a step that has significantly strengthened diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Haskel also highlighted plans to expand cooperation beyond cyber security, including increased engagement at the business-to-business and people-to-people levels.
She pointed to agriculture and women’s empowerment in the business sector as key areas of focus.
Haskel adds that the prayers and solidarity of the Fijian people have not gone unnoticed, and the people of Israel are truly grateful.
The Deputy Minister reiterated that bilateral business engagement will continue to grow and strengthen.
