Canterbury have been crowned 2025 NPC champions after a thrilling 36-28 victory over Otago in Christchurch, overturning a four-point half-time deficit to secure their first title since 2017.
In a pulsating first half, both sides traded blows in a physical battle up front, with Otago making the most of the strong wind at their backs.
They struck early through Peter Umaga-Jensen in the fifth minute after a slick buildup involving Will Tucker, Christian Lio-Willie, and Dylan Pledger.
Canterbury hit back soon after, Dallas McLeod powering over in the corner, before Lucas Casey crossed for Otago and Brodie McAlister responded for the home side.
The visitors went into the sheds ahead after an intense 40 minutes, but as it turned out, the four-point advantage at the break wasn't enough.
