The Fiji Muslim League has strongly condemned the recent derogatory and highly offensive remarks made by Pastor Kartik Naidu of the Central Revival Centre in Samabula, as seen in a video circulating on social media, which has caused deep hurt and discomfort to both the Muslim and Hindu communities.
In a statement, National President Basheer Ahmed says the Fiji Muslim League fully supports the call for authorities to take appropriate action against him.
He says such remarks are unacceptable and have no place in a nation founded on unity, mutual respect, and harmony among all faiths.
Ahmed says the Holy Qur'an teaches us to show respect towards all religions, as respect leads to peace, while insults only result in disharmony.
He says the Fiji Muslim League stands resolute in denouncing any act that disrespects another religion or faith.
He adds that our nation's diversity is our greatest strength, and we must protect it through understanding and compassion.
The Fiji Muslim League is calling upon all community leaders and citizens to continue upholding the values of love, tolerance, and respect that are central to every faith.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has confirmed that the CID is investigating the matter, while Internal Affairs is also conducting an investigation into the officer’s conduct.
Naidu is also a Police officer.
The largest Hindu organisation in Fiji, Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji has formally lodged a complaint with the CID regarding Pastor Naidu’s comments.
