After months of facing water disruptions and low water pressure, residents of Field 40 in Lautoka are now experiencing significant improvement in their water supply.
The Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed that a recent outage affecting Field 40 and the Saru AOG Church was due to both low reservoir levels and a burst main on MN Naidu Road.
They say the burst has since been repaired and water supply is being gradually restored.
A Field 40 resident, who wished to remain anonymous told fijivillage News, that the community has been grappling with low water pressure for the past six to seven months.
She says low pressure starts around 9pm, often leading to a full outage between 10pm and 11pm.
She describes that the ongoing issues has been a major inconvenience affecting their daily routines.
Meanwhile, WAF says to further stabilise supply, the newly commissioned DN375 raw water pipeline from Varaqe to the Saru Treatment Plant, along with ongoing plant upgrades, will boost water inflow and improve overall reliability.
As part of its support to affected communities, WAF is distributing 1,000-litre water tanks to 70 identified customers in Field 40, Captain Whithers Street and Hill Top.
WAF also notes that additional customers may become eligible as awareness programmes continue.
It says Field 40 is supplied by the Saru Water Treatment Plant and the Saru Reservoirs adding to maintain reservoir levels, valve throttling is carried out nightly from 8pm to 3am.
They add that the recent dry weather had led to falling reservoir levels, which had previously been improving.
