A heavy rain alert is now in force for the eastern half of Viti Levu (Navua–Suva–Nausori to Serua–Namosi to Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra areas), southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands.

The Nadi Weather Office says an active trough of low pressure is expected to affect the eastern parts of Fiji from Saturday.

People can expect occasional rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms developing from Saturday.

Flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying informal settlements or communities, businesses, and Irish crossings, is likely.

Possible impacts also include surface flooding on streets in urban areas with poor drainage.

Drivers are advised to be cautious, as wet roads and reduced visibility, especially during heavy downpours, will increase the risk of road accidents.
