While the rehabilitation and augmentation of the Suva Nausori Water System continues, the Water Supply Department said further funding for the project will be released once proper procedures are followed.
These are the words of Principal Information Officer, Iliesa Sokia who said it is of great concern that the old pipes still in use today, are losing 50% of water pumped through the system through leaks, and this is why they have the 70 million US dollar loan from the ADB to fund this project.
Sokia said priority has been given to ensuring that the rehabilitation and augmentation of the Suva Nausori water system is carried out quickly.
It was earlier revealed by Divisional Water Engineer Central Eastern, Sereicokocoko Yanuyanurua that they were still awaiting the approval of funding to do the replacement work.
Meanwhile, good news for residents of Ba, who have not been receiving normal water supply for the last 5 months since the January floods, should expect normal water supply by the end of this week.
Divisional Water Engineer Western Samuela Tubui said engineers are working around the clock after landowners of Nasolo gave them the green light to lay the new pipe line through their land.
